Art Fair Exhibition

Just returned from the Art Fair at Mennorode in Elspeet, the Netherlands, where I and 13 other artists participated in a week-long art exhibition showing paintings, photographs, glass jewelry and more. I was there with some of my most recent monoprints.

This was the first time I had a real-life exhibition with my work and I didn’t really know what to expect. Which artworks should I bring, how would people react to my work, what would be the best way to show my work, things like that. I decided to only bring monoprints and not any other paintings or drawings, so all my works there would be in the same style.

I chose 16 of my most recent monoprints and decided to display them behind white mats (passe-partouts), not behind glass and without frames. All my monoprints have deckle edges and to show these edges the prints would need to be mounted on a background, but for the Art Fair I wanted to use a non-permanent way of displaying the prints and so I chose to only use the mats. My friend Kees was so sweet to show me how to make the mats and helped me cutting them, which took us a whole afternoon and evening! It was definitely worth the effort though, because they looked fabulous – even without the deckle edges showing.

The Art Fair itself was wonderful. It was great to be there with a bunch of other artists, to see their work and to talk about what we do. I spoke to lots of new people, got many lovely and touching comments on my work and even sold 11 of my monoprints. All in all it was a great experience and I would certainly love to do it again. In fact, there are some plans for new exhibitions, but that’s still something to develop further in the future…
